Thanks Larry, I'll check your web site tonight. Speaking of hood clearance,
I forgot to mention I have a glass MGC bonnet, so I have about one inch
extra above the engine. Is that enough to clear the fox body intake? How
much taller is it?

You won't be fitting a modular into a MGB engine bay, that is unless you
convert the hood to look like a Mack truck. Then you will still need to
bash out the fender wells I would think. That modular motor is just a
massive unit.

The 5,0 is not that bad, as Dale mentioned the hardest part is the headers.
The x-member is really not difficult and purely depends on where you want
the motor to set in the car. I let my motor tell me where it needed to be.
I set it as far back and down as possible. NO hood, tunnel or firewall
mods! the steering rack is nestled up between the oil pan and harmonic
balancer. I actually have to pull the rack off it's mounts to install the
motor. For EFI without modding the hood you will want 94/95 mustang GT
set-up (NOT COBRA!) intakes, fuel rails and matching TB harness and
distributor. This set-up is the lowest profile ford ever made, the distirb
is ~3/4" shorter than other 5.0's so it cleared the hood on my car while a
fox bodied 5.0 one would not. For front accessories, brackets and belts, go
96-2001 Ford explorer. right and left brackets and idler's, tensioner,
timing covers, water pump, harmonic balancer, alternator. you will end up
cutting off part of the left side bracket as you have no pwr steer or AC,
then have one pulley made to hold the belt. The left side you dress with a
Die grinder (1/4" of material removal where it is close to the frame) and
then bolt it all together! The Stock alt for a explorer is I think 130A so
no more weak charging.

That is about al I can brain dump at the moment. I just got mine to run
well again after changing the cam out. Lots of work ahead to get her on the
road and test driven.

Check the website for all sorts of info. the Tech section has a diary on
the install.

Just out of curiosity. Could somebody tell me how a Ford swap differs from
a BOPR. I know there are a few people that have done both. I have done a
215 and am considering either a Ford 5.0 conversion or a swap on another
car. I don't have the means to do it now, but if the right wrecked mustang
were to appear, you never know.

Has anyone ever done one of the modular Ford V8s?

What I have been looking at is a FI 5.0, a T-5, and a mustang rear axle. I
know the T-5 details, and I'm sure the rear axle would have to be narrowed.
