Fellow fiends:

I agree with the conclusions regarding the drop in HP with the advent of the
HIF carbs.  I think the article *must* be wrong on that account.  I have the
R&T book on MGs from that time and will be interested to see at least what
the published ratings are for that carb equiped car.  Watch this space.

The quote from the paper that really caught my eye was that regarding the
"single fire-prone carb," meaning the single Zenith-Stromberg.  I had no
idea these were "fire-prone."  Is this true?  This was a widely used carb in
lbcs of that period (yes/no?).  Was it prone to flame?

ZSs were a carb of choice for many LBCs.  Problem with MGB application was:
ZSs do tend to run rich.  Rich mixtures do tend to make catcons overheat
and glow red.  Catcon is mounted directly below carb so when carb drips a
bit of fuel, it drips on red-hot catcon, causing "external" combustion!
