i have a lot of td experience having restored at least three.
its your choice as to what you should do. a complete resoration --- properly
done is expensive. figure on $12000
to $15000 for parts and minimal outside work and you do the rest yourself.
engine job properly done will cost about $2300 of that.if you "have the car
professionally done count on at least $25000 to $30000.---my advice--- do
the engine now, drive the car this summer, have fun with it, tear it down
and restore it next winter yourself. it takes about 1000 hours to do it
right. rear ends usually are pretty sound-- assume it is good. tranny will
be weak in the first gear and reverse gear
because the cluster gear is poorly designed in this area. take the top cover
off and inspect for wear on all the gear teeth. be particularly alert for
chipped , gaulled or broken teeth particularly on the smaller gears on the
cluster gear and the gears in the back of the box. when removing the top do
not lose the three spings and balls that act as shifter detents. keep the
box upright when removing the top cover.
buy yourself a factory workshop manual, a good set of whitworth combination
wrenches, a good set of whitworth sockets, and a good set of bsf/bsa taps
