Funny, mine does that too.  It always has (for two years since I've had it).

I do keep meaning to put a new cable in or grease it or something, but never
seem to get round to it.  What I mean of course is that something more urgent
goes wrong first.

Let me know if you find some good solution / easily cured cause of the problem.
