I would like to agree with this "proximity-to-mg-causing-electrons-to-
misbehave" theory. Last year, my living situation was such that I was forced
to park my BMW roughly one-half inch behind my Midget. The Midget has served
me for four years with no electrical maladies other than bad grounds and
broken wires (the broken wires were my fault; think about where the wires are
going when you install a Panhard rod.). But within a few weeks of being
parked so close to the MG, Lucas smoke ions (my theory) began leaping the
small gap from the chrome bumper of the Midget to the chrome bumper of the
BMW, and then into the BMW's previously dependable system. The result? Bad
grounds began popping up everywhere. Relays failed. The high-pressure rotary
fuel pump, though it never failed to make fuel pressure and its little
whirring noise, would occasionally make a sound that can best be described as
"pucka-pucka-pucka." This year, the two cars live about five miles apart, and
there have been no electrical problems with either. Coincidence?
Oh, and thank you VERY MUCH, Denise and SPAM, for putting this MG 1100 idea in
my head. Much to my horror, I now find myself actually sorta kinda
half-looking/hoping for one. As if I have the time, space, or money. But I
have always wanted a car with tailfins...
