Why is there two different High and Low compression engines for the MGB? Early

Subject: WANTED: MGB cylinder head near Atlanta
If anybody in the metro Atlanta, GA area has a cylinder head for a MGB
which they would be willing to part with I could really use one.
The one I have now has the air injector holes as it is off a '75 model. I
would prefer one of the earlier ones as apparently these are less prone
to cracking but at this point I guess I would be happy with anything.
