Ride Height

     I believe the increase in ride height was also related to the 5 mph 
     crash requirement -- in order to pass this, the bumpers had to be at a 
     certain height and in order to have the bumpers at this height, the 
     whole car had to be higher. 
     
     My '74 B (built in May '74) has chrome bumpers with huge rubber- 
     covered overriders. I suspect this may have been a temporary fix for 
     the bumper height issue, but I would like to hear an authoritative 
     view on this.
