Maybe your ignition relay is sticking. If it's hooked up backwards the 
current will keep the points closed

As I thought about it so more, I wondered if the problem is a short in an
alternator diode, and not the ignition switch? Any thoughts, anyone? If so,
how about the danger of fire while the engine is shut off?
