Nope, no recovery system.  And yep, it loses coolant continuously, but 
only in hot conditions...like, for example, a traffic jam.  There's 
nothing as awful as watching your temp gauge creep up...and up...and up 
while you sit trapped helplessly on the freeway.

I forgot to mention that I also replaced all the hoses and the heater 
valve as likely suspects, and I also checked the plugs for fouling (no 
evidence of it!).

Judging by the replies, it _has_ to be the head gasket mysteriously 
leaking somewhere, a bad water pump, or a bad radiator cap.

That, or somebody's just stealing it...
