I've done it both ways, and I'd recommend the latter. On my first
B it took me 2 hours to remove the old mufflers and another 2 to install
a pair of stock ones, and I'm sure it was not entirely leakproof as I
relied on a compression fit via muffler clamps. On the other hand, a
couple of months ago I took my '69 B to Menlo Muffler (a highly
recommended local shop) to replace the front muffler, and the shop did
a better job in 25 minutes. They charged ~$35 for labor and, as they
seemed highly adept with torches and welders, it was quite a show! I'd
recommend purchasing the exhaust components beforehand and then bring it
to a shop; the shops seem to mark up the parts prices a bit.

Purists will spurn me for mentioning this, but the PO of Goldie, my '69 B,
had the same experience and ultimately replaced a few of the plastic Lucas
switches with chrome, aircraft-style pull-switches. He housed these
switches in a wonderfully hand-crafted 3/4"-thick solid oak center
console, which replaced the original plastic console. For pic's, see
my web page again!
That said, I'm sort of an originality buff so I would encourage you to
either recondition your switches the best you can or go find some reliable
used ones (if they exist!)... and then pray whenever you go out at night
that the Lucas switches don't suddenly self-destruct and leave you without
lights!

Well, the ones on my B had speakers mounted in the interior side
panels the ear, and even after I replaced the 26 year old
Radio Shack ones with a pair of good-quality Boston Acoustics, it's
still hard to hear the radio with the top down on the highway!
Forget it, who needs the cacophony playing on the radio when
you can listen to the exhaust note of an LBC...

Funny, my boss just made a rather high unsolicited offer on my MG today...
apparently he had noticed (and been lusting after) my Pale Primrose B
around Stanford on numerous occasions, but didn't know it was mine
until this morning. Sorry Boss, Goldie and I are together for life, I
hope that doesn't mean I'm now fired...
