In this discussion on the DOT 3 vs DOT 4 stuff, I would suggest that
the DOT 3 may be recommended in your manuals because DOT 4 was not invented
at the time your cars were manufactured so use the DOT 4 whenever you are
rebuilding or even replacing your brake fluid.
