The CA BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair?) does allow certain modifications
for specific "known" problems. For instance (no flames please) I was told
that it was allowable to remove the mechanical fuel injection from a 1972
and early 1973 Porsche 911 and replace it with Webers, BECAUSE the
mechanical f.i. for those limited years is a known problem and is well
documented. At least that is how I understood it, but I didn't buy a
Porsche - I bought a MG Midget instead and am quite happy with my decision,
thankyou.
So, if you want to change to Webers you should contact the CA-BAR directly,
or do like somebody else recommended and go to your preferred local smog
check expert and discuss the pending change before you make the changes.
