<The real problem I suppose is that the Brits, bless their hearts, never
<imagined a car being subjected to the heat of a summer in Atlanta. After a
<day in the sun, I go to open the window for the ride home from work and the
<black plastic knob just comes away in my hand. Pop! There goes another
<one!

Real problem was occupant safety in a crash. Feds don't want you skinning
you knees on the window crank in the split seconds before you impale yourself
on the steering wheel. So they outlawed toggle switches on the dash, made
the sun visors so they fall apart, and window crank handles that brake away.
 Trevor, are you reading this?

If the window mechanism in side the door is well lubricated, and the felt
strip along the wing window is soft & smooth, the window crank handles should
last a couple of years. At least they're cheap.
