Barney,

Good advice. 

It's one thing to put up with moderately loose king pins and other stuff. The
only penalty is a little tire wear. It's something entirely different to
delay dealing with splines that are badly worn. The penalty in that situation
can be the equivalent of brake failure when only the hubs stop (and the
wheels continue to turn). 

I had this experience about six years ago when approaching a stoplight and
ended up hearing a sickening growling sound as the car continued into the
intersection. Thank God no one was coming on the cross street. It would have
been a serious accident. 

If the wheels (and maybe the hubs too) need replacing, it's going to be
expensive, but the alternative is much worse.
