In response to Mr. Ratigan's question about the interrupted contact & gearbox
cover: 
Apparently that's how the motor figures out where to park the wipers: You
close the switch, but juice continues to the motor until the rotor encounters
the gap in the circular contact attached to the gearbox cap.  The parking
position is adjusted by leaving the gearbox screws loose enough to rotate the
cap until the parking position satisfies you. At least that's how it was
explained to me; I'm waiting for my motor to return from a rebuilder to put
all this theory into practice. On my motor, a fiberboard washer insulated the
circular contact from the metal of the cap. BTW, getting to all gearbox cover
screws with the motor in place on a lefthand-drive car was impossible for me.
I'm not sure how to manage the adjusting once I have it back, but that's all
part of the Grand Adventure, I guess.
