Covered MGA side curtains

Has anyone tried to covered the aluminum frames for the MGA side curtains
with vinyl?  I assume one could use a good contact cement, and simply cover
the side curtains.  I would like to use a black vinyl.  Does this sound like
a make-work project that I'm later-on going to wish I hadn't done?  Thanks-
