MGA Questions (Revision!)

This is a change from my earlier message;

I've found the casting in the side of the block of my '59 MGA where the tach
would connect. All that's there is the casting shape with 2 holes for the
bolts. The casting is NOT drilled and the bolts are not present. My block
cannot accept a mechanical tach.  But isn't a mechanical tach (and it's
gearing) what's supposed to be present?
