  Rich,
   The courtesy light is AKA the map light. It mounts just above the radio
cut out.
  The wiring for it is purple ("hot", connected to the light) and
purple/white (ground, which connect to either/both of the door switches.
 When the door is opened, the swithch closes, providing a ground path for the
light circuit, and Voila! the map/courtesy light comes on.
