Pull off the #1 spark plug wire and drive it a bit on 3 cylinders.  If
the noise doesn't go away, put it back on and try #2, #3, and #4 in turn.
 If the noise goes away with one plug wire off you have a bad rod
bearing.  If you catch it early and haven't damaged the crankshaft, it's
about $30 for bearings and a pan gasket and a couple hours work.  If the
crank has been scuffed it has to come out for a regrind.
