If your engine compartment is striped and you are going to sand it then why
not have it painted when the car is painted? It won't cost much more to
shoot the engine compartment while the rest of the car is painted. The paint
the professional uses is _more_ durable than a spray can paint, and it will
match.

I painted my engine compartment after the car was painted. When the car was
painted the engine was in the car. After it was painted the engine died.
When I removed the engine I painted the engine compartment. I used the same
paint as the painter, and a spray gun. I can tell you that under these
circumstances it is _very_ important to mask the entire exterior of the car.

Tip: my painter suggested to me to use Comet and a 3M scrub pad to prepair
the engine compartment. It worked great.
