I had my MGA 1500 engine rebuilt. When I got the engine back from the
shop, I began to wonder as to whether the machine shop had plugged an oil
hole that they should not have plugged on the underside of the block. When
looking at the underside of the block, I see two brass plugs in one corner
(near the oil pump). I became concerned when I installed the oil pan gasket
and a hole in the gasket outlined one of the brass plugs installed by the
shop. The plug in question seems to be associated with the oil pressure
vent. Now, I know that the oil pressure vent has a brass plug on the side of
the block (and it has been installed). However, when I look in my shop
manual (pg A.2), I see that there are two plugs for the oil pressure vent,
one on the side and one on the underside of the block.

My car had an early 5-main engine when I bought it, so I took the pan
off of this engine and observed that there was only ONE brass plug in the
underside of the block. The second plug for the oil pressure vent was not in
the 5-main engine! I am a bit confused by all of this and naturally do not
want to ruin a $2000 engine rebuild. Does anyone have any thoughts on this
subject? Should there be two brass plugs or one brass plug on the underside
of a 1500 block?

     Thanks for the help!!
