As stated, this switch is not essential.  I have used air conditioning 
cut out kits to duplicate the function.  Low vacuum, the switch opens 
and cuts power to the A/C (overdrive).  The cut out kits are available 
from most American parts stores.  We did once install one inside the 
original switch assy. for a concours car.
