To all,

I just finished doing my painted wire wheels this weekend with great sucess.
Figured I'd share some knowledge. It was a big project but worth it. First
with the tires still on I sandblasted the wheels over a garbage can lined
with a plastic bag to catch the over sprayed sand so it could be reused.
(sift the sand through an old window screen before any use) YOU MUST wear
protection for your eyes, nose, mouth, hair and arms (and for safe sex) It
took 1.5 to 2 hours per wheel to get all the old paint off; but, the surface
was perfect. You can have it done but it averages $20-$25 per wheel. Next I
took a 12" by about 36" strip of light flexable metal and wrapped it around
the wheel and clamped it in place with a pair of Visegrips. This protects any
overspray from touching the tires. I then gray primed each wheel (a little
Vasaline on the tire stops any mist from sticking). I used the Moss original
gray wheel spray paint. It was expensive at $12.95 a can; but, I honestly
think it was worth every cent. I got 4 wheels out of 1 can. I bought 2 and
have plenty left. The wheels look factory now!
