Not an MG, BUT, my '66 Galaxie has 10.5:1 compression and I set the
timing at around 12* BTDC. Sometimes in the hot Florida summers I will
back off the timing to 10*. I HAVE to use 93 or 92 octane, NO alternating
between 89 and 93 for example. I can use 89 or even 87 if I really
back off of the timing, but the engine runs poor to.
In my opinion the increase in gas mileage will off set the price
difference for the higher octane gas, when you increase your compression
ratio.
