It is a thin strand of a waxey/plastic type material. You put it between
your bearing and crank shaft, reinstall and retorque the bearing cap,
then disassemble. The plastiguage will be squished, you measure the
width of the plastiguage to find the clearance of the bearing.
The more it is squished, the wider it will be, and the smaller the
clearence of the bearing.
The type of plastiguage you buy (red or green) depends on what bearing
clearence you are looking for.
You can buy it at most parts stores.
