To get rid of that "hair" of oversteer, Mike, try adding 2 or 3 pounds of
pounds pressure to the rear tires. That usually works.
I have Michelin MX4 175R14s on my wire wheeled 68 BGT. They look just
right, and they hold the road very well. IMHO, any size larger than 175
on 60-spoke wire wheels (a) looks too fat and (b) doesn't work properly
as the rim is too narrow. (On 72-spoke wheels, which have a 1/2" wider
rim, or on the Rostyle wheels, some 185s look and work great.)
Be aware, however, some tire brands are sized differently even though
nominally the same! We now have two cars in the shop on 175R14s. The
tread width of my Michelins is 5-1/2". Another B is on Winston 160
tires; their tread is 6" wide and the tires look much bigger. The same
holds true for different brands in 185 sizes.
