  Wattage doesn't quite work that way...

  The amp is capable of putting out 85w into speakers. But speakers
are low impedance, like 4/8/16 ohms depending on layout.

  The amplifier produces a voltage swing of in the order of
20 volts. Only when going through a low impedance will 20 volts
produce enough current for "85 watts".

  The outputs (in this case inputs) of your probably have a much
higher impedance, at least into the Ks. So the same 20V is
not going to produce nearly that much wattage.

  While it might die from having 20V across them, or they might
be cooked by a much lower current, they aren't really getting
85 watts in any way.
