been waiting patiently for carb parts and tinkering a bit while the
'b rests. still haven't been able to get the broken water outlet stud
loose, but i really don't want to remove the head and takeit to a
machine shop, but that's another story...

  here's the story:
1973 mgb fitted with 77-80 model gearbox & overdrive (no dipstick--
refill & fluid level check on side of gearbox, laycock lh overdrive--
engages only in 4th <per 77-80 od's>). the speedometer is missing its
needle, and is obviously not hooked up as the odometer and trip meter
have not moved since i bought the car (yes, it has been driven...)

-where does the speedometer cable attach (i mean other than the
   speedometer...)
-the speedometer has '1280' printed in the lower right half, leading
me to beleive that it is an od capable speedometer, but maybe not
designed to perform with the later model overdrive. any
   ideas?
-if this speedometer will function, where can i get a needle, or
otherwise, where is a good place to have it rebuilt? (or is it
easier just to purchase a new/rebuilt unit?)
-if this speedometer will _not_ function properly (due to the later od),
what the hell do i do? will a 77-80 model speedometer fit in the
   dash?

thanks again, and maybe one day i'll submit a post that isn't loaded
  with questions...
