I'm not sure about the column itself, but I know that the rod that runs from
your column to your rack and pinion is different.  The rubber bumpered cars
had a longer rod and shorter steering column, and the early cars had a
shorter rod and longer column.  I'm not sure why, but then again, there's
alot of things that make me unsure about Bee-ell.  8-)
