Welcome to the list. Yes, I've thought about a 5sp and went to the "Pick U
Part" junk yard to look for a donor. The best that I found was a 5sp from a
Nissan 280ZX. It was about the same length, shifter in about the right
location, bellhousing was about the same size, starter motor was in the
same location and had a hyd clutch. I havent done it, but you would have to
figure out some stuff. You might need the flywheel, clutch and starter motor
from the Nissan, then make a new rear plate to bolt the engine trans
together. Another option might be to use the Nissan clutch disc with the
stock flywheel, pressure plate and starter motor. Todate, I've not found
anyone that has figured out all the details. Richard

Has there ever been a 5 speed gearbox, not 4 w/ an OD, but actually 5? I
know there's been 5 speeds developed for the Mini, is it not possible to cram
one in there?
Just a thought, and if there has been on emade, or it's one of those
questions that everyone laughs at and says, Look at the stupid Newbie,
please, ignore it!! I am only 16, and doing many dumb things, like buying a
61 Austin mini that hasn't run in 2 years, and has a rebuilt & bored out
engine in it that got 150 mi. put on, then sat!!
Later!! _-Wiz-_ 74 1/2 MGB GT 61 Austin Mini
