I find vinyl surgical gloves ($8.00 for a box of 50 at CVS Drug stores)
are a good cure.  They have the added advantage of allowing you to
instantly "clean" your hands when you go from working on some
totally grimey part of the car to some part where everything has
to be kept perfectly clean.  

I went through at least one box while rebuilding the gearbox on my
Healey.  Made it much easier to keep all of the internal parts clean.
