FWIW, I drove my '74 MGBGT from Alcoa, Tennessee to St. Louis, MO a few years
ago, and a year or so later, drove it from TN to Canada.  Both trips were made
on the interstates, and the normal speed both times was 80 MPH.  I had no
complaints, and, as near as I can tell, neither did the car.
