Folks,
Just back from the Atlantic City Auction and Flea Market and have to
tell you about the powder coater Eastwood is selling. No, I'm not at all
associated, just interested in passing what I saw to the group.
The system costs about $150 and comes with just about all you need(a
pressure regulator will be added in the near future, I'm told.)
There are about 12 colors just now and each bottle of powder is enough
for covering 10 sq.ft. Starting with a chemically or sandblast cleaned
piece, attaching a ground wire for the electrostatic charge, a
slight(2-3.5psi) puff of coating from their gun deposits an even coating
on the piece, then into an oven(kitchen or small toaster oven) at 400=BA
for 10 minutes and you have a shiny, grease, fuel, brake fluid
impervious item for your car or whatever! Your air supply can be from a
small air tank!
What amazed me was a small 2-inch long spring they did that compressed
without any problem in flexibility or chipping!
Items like a wire wheel requiring two sides are handled slightly
differently as far as supporting in the oven when curing, one side at a
time. Remember, though, if you exceed 400=BA, the material melts again, s=
o
no exhaust manifolds, for example.
My friend and I plan on getting one and perhaps add powder coating to
our repartoire.

Cheers,
Dave Houser
