It is art.  It is beauty.  Immortalized in the words:

"wind in my hair
 shifting and drifting
 mechanical music
 adrenaline surge"

Or more technically, a steady state cornering situation where the
front and rear tires have equal slip angles, with the car remaining
under the control of the driver, and motion being both along the radius
of the corner and outwards from the center of the radius.

Ot more simply, when you take a corner fast, and the whole car
slides towards the outside of the corner, or "drifts" a bit as
you go through the corner, usually followed by a grinning driver
and white-knuckled passenger.

And to complete the image, I'll add more from the quote above:

"well weathered leather
 hot metal and oil
 the scented country air
 sunlight on chrome
 the blur of the landscape
 every nerve aware"
