Hello list.
Today my good-running 76 B pulled a crazy one on me. Mind you, I drive
this car over 1000 miles a month and it runs good every time. Today I
drove it around the block, and as I was pulling onto my street, it cut
off. My brother helped push me home, and we discovered that it was
firing. So it was fuel-related. Closer inspection revealed that the
three screws which hold the heat mass onto the auto choke had come
undone, and it was running so rich I guess that it wouldn't start. I
messed with the little lever inside, and all I can get it to do is
either idle at 2000 rpms or run so rich that the neighborhood fills with
black smoke. Neither is good.
So, should I "borrow" the SU HIF4's from my newly-purchased 74 1/2 GT,
or should I start shopping? I don't want to take anything off the GT
because it's going to be turned into a runner soon. I don't know if
this carb is fixable though.

Thanks.
