As I was driving from work yesterday I noticed the temperature rising in
the car. It normally runs at 160 but was creeping past 190 . When I turned
into my driveway I noticed smoke coming from the front end of the car. Open
the garage door I am coming in !! On checking the brakes were overheated.
All 4 of them ! The fronts were not "locked on" but were definitely
grabbing. The rears were the same. The knock off's were hot to touch, the
front more than the rears. After a few hours of "cool down" the wheels
released but were still not free turning.

The car is a 64 MGB roadster. The only thing I can think of is a master
cylinder fault. On checking the reservoir , it was full. The piston was
moving in and out of the cylinder and no leaks. This morning on checking
the fronts again the right front is definitely hard to turn . Without
getting dirty it feels like a bearing. The car was restored 5 years ago and
all braking was new.

My questions. Has anyone had this experience ? Can a bad bearing or
sticking calipers transfer the heat to the back ? I know that is reaching
but I can't understand the back knock offs being warm . How can I tell what
type of break fluid the DPO used ? The amount of heat that was generated
at the front was considerable (knock offs HOT to touch) . Will this heat
have any detrimental effect on the caliper seals , rotors , etc ?

I plan to pull the calipers and start from the front to the back to
check
and rebuild the system as required . Any suggestions from those that have
gone before ?

THANK YOU
