My own advice would be to read read read and go to a showor three and fall
in love with a particular model... one that curls your toes and you just
gotta have.  I  like all MG's, but my heart flutters whenever I see and
MGA.  I also love TR3's, and came close to buying one, but...

Buy the best one you can find, and don't let just the outer cosmetics guide
you.  If all you can afford is a beater, get one that is at least running
well enough to enjoy, then improve it little by little.  Just remember that
bad paint is much better than a bad tranny.  I don't think your first LBC
should be a project... Like Janis Joplin said, "You don't buy it today so
you can wear it tomorrow, Man!" 

Join a local club and get to know others in your area with MGs.
