Just got home from a delightful day on Long Island at the Vanderbilt
Mansion,
Great show, 125 cars, about half of which were British and some of which
were downright stunning - especially a 1937 Rolls Royce 2 seat
convertible which rightfully won the peoples choice award - just
beautiful. Rich Boris (who knows about this sort of thing) pointed out
that the engine was a precursor to the WW2 Merlin that they used in
Spitfires (the fighters not the junkers - oops, no, junkers were fighters
too - I mean
the Tr***ph!)

Along with 18 CB Bs, 8 RB bs, assorted Midgets (sorry didnt count them)
were an array of As, 3 TDs and one TC, Triumphs Jags, a Jensen and a
jacked-up Landrover that was definitely the kids choice of the day!

Two generations of Deutsches were there along with Rich, Mike Graziano
and myself from the list - allegedly, Dave Iwansky was there but i didnt
get to meet him (nice car though Dave!) and the usual cast of thousands
that make these events so enjoyable even though it was about 100degrees
with humidity to match! (the days greatest tragedy was when the bar ran
out of water! - I resorted to soda and finally to radiator water out of a
winscreen washer fluid bottle!!)

My round trip was just shy of 200 miles which is relatively bizarre since
from the mansion i could see my office (4 miles across LI sound) which is
20 miles from home!! - we need more bridges hereabouts!!!!

The judging was of course highly suspect!!(hehe - as you can guess i
didnt win anything!) but I'll let them off just this once even though i
saw a couple of the winning "paperweights" boarding trailers just outside
the showfield!

A really super day in a great location whih excellent company!! - hope
you all had as good a time
