Hi Nina,
The mystery part is one of the two retainers that holds the speedo
against the back of the dash. It slides over one of the threaded studs
that protrude from the back of the speedo case. There is a knurled nut
that screws on over it. The speedo is inserted into the dash, the
retainer is slid on from the back with the folded part towards the dash
and the nut screws on to hold it against the dash. The same arrangement
holds the tach.
As I said there should be two of them. the one towards the center of
the dash is supposed to have the ground wire lug installed under its
nut.
