your response to the high school boys request for a good rubber bumper B
for
commuting seems typical of a "RED NECK A--HOLE MENTALITY ! "

Well, I must be a "red neck a-hole", too. I thought the same exact
thing as Neil. I am the father of two sons, both now in college (and
each of them expecting to take daddy's MGs to school with them) the last
one also went to a junior college part of his high school years for
accelerated classes. He wanted to drive the Midget daily to his
classes. To save wear and tear on my jewels, and to save the life of my
rambunctious teenager, I bought him a $300 '80s vintage Volvo that he
could work on himself. (He loves it now, drove it to UGA this year.)

Believe me, they don't appreciate the value of the thing unless they
have some blood, sweat and dollars of their own into it. And they
should fund the insurance increase for having a car at their disposal.
Too many kids are just given what they want, without any real regard for
how much their parents have to struggle to provide it.

That kid's got time. Give him a good Haynes manual and a Moss catalog.
Let him go to Illinois and save that MGB with a/c from the crusher for
$400 and rebuild it in his spare time, since he apparantly doesn't have
to study very much. Then he can have something of value for a long time
to come. There are other young people on this list that have done the
same thing. He wants an MG, let him earn it the way all the rest of us
have.

In my humble opinion...

73 Midget
78 MGB
