Since no-one else jumped in (at least publicly) let me ask, Enrique, what
books you have been reading?

All MGA and MGB engines - both block and cylinder head - were painted a dark
red up through the 18GK engines.

When the 18V was introduced, the factory had lost the good deal they had on
the red paint but found a source of really cheap black paint so they changed
to black. However, they found they had to use the strange, orange primer
under it to make it stick.

Despite what you read somewhere, as they had no more red paint, they were
unable to paint the heads red and the blocks black (they left that odd
combination to Ferrari.)
