The longer you wait the better, Even with hardner a minium of 30 days
before sanding.
 I start with 1200 grit and wet sand with soapy water, Use like dish
liquid in the water so the paper dosn't  bind. Then compound and use a
finishing compound like 3ms 
finese, These have to be nutralised by waxing within hours of use as some
have caustic bases. Good luck  don't rush to sand the longer you wait
with enamel the better. Carl E.
