Old temp gauge

I am trying to remove the dashboard of my 67 B to paint while it is
down for paint/body. I had disconnected every wire, bolt, etc. from the
dash (OK, fascia). But I have come to a roadblock, I cannot remove the
sending unit from the head. I have been spraying the thing with PB and
tapping it for several days now without success. I do not wish to end
with an expensive paper weight, But I am running out of options. Any
ideas???
