Mike L asked where all of the oil goes.  Your car is burning 1 quart of oil
in 1000 miles and 1 gallon of gas in 25 miles.  So it is burning 1/4 the
oil in 40 times the distance.   so about 0.6% of the fluid burned is oil. 
Put another way, if it were a two stroke you would be mixing gas and oil at
160 to 1.  This wound not smoke much.

Neil C,  Looking at the picture of your head.  Cylinders 1, 3, and 4 look
fine.  No. 2 is wet from oil or antifreeze.  I would not be surprised if a 
loose rod has damaged the cylinder wall below where you have looked.
