Regarding the panel lamp in the tachometer - there are two different types
of panel lamp sockets in an MGB.  

The sockets for the small instruments are a push fit into metal sleeves on
the back of the gauge, they are best removed by twisting and pulling the
socket straight out of the back of the gauge.  

The sockets on the larger tach and speedo snap into holes in the back of the
gauges, and are held in place by little metal fingers on the socket shell.
These are removed by TILTING the socket to snap it out of the hole in the
gauge.  If it doesn't want to move, you could use a teensy screwdriver
between the socket edge and the back of the gauge to pry it out.
