Hello,

Recently, I asked for suggestions why my brake drum might be hitting the
backing plate. Since my differential has a lot of play, I figured I'd start
on replacing the thrust washers and meanwhile have a chance to inspect the
drum clearance issue a little deeper.

So last night, I'm doing the homework. My Haynes manual has directions
for taking apart the banjo axle, but under the heading for tube axles is
nothing but a single reference back to section 1 paragraph 1 which reads
something like "...the tube axles are best left to a specialist with the
correct tools."

Ugh. Would anyone mind shedding some light on this for me? Is there
some special tool I need to find or jerry-rig? Is there some secret trick
to removing an axle (aside from not parking too close to the garage wall)?
Is it one of those deals where you can get it apart but not back together
unless you know the secret chant and have access to a NOS supply of Cecil
Kimber's nail clippings?

  Help?
