Hello All!

I have a '73 MGB with the original engine. It was siezed, so
with alot of help and encouragement from many of you, I have
pulled the engine and have resigned myself to rebuilding my first
project car.

Anyways, many things are not as they should be in the engine. I could
only get out one of the four pistons so far! I want to turn the block
over on end and whale on the pistons with a huge hammer. But the oil pump is
in the way and I am afraid of bending the 3 studs that the block rests on
when it is sitting upright.

I have removed the sump, crankshaft, camshaft, oil strainer, and oil pump
spindle. The Haynes manual says that all I need to do is remove three nuts
and lift away the oil pump. I removed any visible nuts and it is not
coming off.
There are three studs that are protruding from the pump. I tried removing
them,
but they are in there good! I dont know if they are whats holding this
thing in
place or if it as frozen in place as the pistons. There is no visible rust
around the pump and Ive tried oiling it up and tapping it with a hammer and
wood.
In addition, my pump doesnt really look like the ones depicted in the parts
magazines,
which look as though they are attatched to the oil strainer. Mine is a
separate part
from the strainer though that is attatched to the bottom corner of the
block, just on the other
side of the sump. When I set the block on the floor, it does not rest
evenly where the sump
used to go because the three oil pump studs are in the way.
I dont know how to get it out of the block - any suggestions or experiences?

Thanks!,

-MGB Mike-
