Try and revert to a points system to check the coil, dizzie etc and
eliminate (or condemn) the electronic module.

Check your fitting instructions if you can, you may have to bypass the
external ballast when fitting electronic ignition.  If you are supposed to
bypass it then you would expect to see 12v at the ignition module at all
times the ignition is switched on.

I wouldn't willingly hold a disconnected HT lead on a conventional system,
let alone an electronic system, it is uncomfortable at least and hazardous
at worst.  I connect the king lead to a spare plug and lay it on the block.
