Hi all, a few months ago I boasted about putting Porsche brakes on our
MGB-V8 conversion. I have stressed to my brother that we should get the
car to stop before we get it to go. The car will be finished this
summer, so we need to make sure the brakes are in excellent order.

Anyway, here's what we are doing:
Porsche rotors. Cheap, high quality, and very robust. I can get vented
rotors for $50-100 each vs. the lousy MGB rotors for slightly less.
Unfortunately, we are going to use the original hubs, since we wish to
retain the original bolt pattern. Otherwise, the all-aluminum Porsche
hubs would be use at a HUGE weight savings.
Instead of Porsche calipers, we're opting for Wilwood's Dynalite II four
piston calipers. Cheaper and more effective. Also very light. We are
looking to decrease unsprung weight and increase braking power.

Total cost around $400 for calipers, adapters, and rotors.
Master cylinder requirements are being calculated now. I will try to
find a suitable bolt-in replacement, but that sounds like a longshot.

I can go into more detail for those who are interested.

Coming up later, digital distributorless ignition for those who are into
the engine modifications arena. Full control of the advance curve
triggered by crank sensor. Are there any computer engineers or like out
there? We are looking at using a Motorola chip and hall effect sensor
to do this work. Don't ask me the details. I'm just the dumb blond
poking my EE buddies to help me figure this out.

Take care
Jay
