While crawling under my '75 B I noticed that the rod the runs under the
transmission to the back of the bell housing was so loose, it was rattling
around. My Haynes refers to as an "Engine support Rod" Is there a specific
procedure to tighten it up ? If so, what is it ? Also, it appears to be either
curved or bent, this might be to clear the bottom of the trans. But should it
be curved or straight ? My car is equipped with the OD trans, and it looks as
if a slight curve in the rod is necessary to clear the bottom of the trans.
Also, my trans has always had a slight grind when shifting into 4th. My RX-7
Turbo did the same in 1st - 3rd gears. I cured it by switching to Redline MT90
trans lube. I am considering using it in the B's box, but am concerned about
it's effect on the OD unit. Anyone have any experience with this in these cars
?
It was a miracle worker in the Mazda.
